Jacaranda Cottage is a refuge for young women aged between 16 and 24 who have become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. We exist to serve and support girls who have experienced family breakdown, domestic violence, poverty, abuse, or neglect. Our goal is to help young women through their hardship by providing a safe and supportive home that helps them move toward independent living. Our vision is to impart hope, facilitate restoration, and celebrate transformation in the lives of young women. We do this by helping girls work through their hardship, discover their identity and values, and reach their goals.

    Our Impact

Jacaranda Cottage began in 1992 and since then we have housed and cared for hundreds of young women. In 2013 we also expanded our services to support girls who aren't using our accommodation service. We also proudly partner with Project Youth and other youth services in the Sutherland Shire to create positive life and cultural change among young people at risk.

    Our Service

Jacaranda Cottage is a medium-term refuge where girls can stay for up to 12 months. We have the capacity to house 4 girls at a time. If you, or someone you know, is in need of staying at Jacaranda there are a couple of things to consider first. Potential residents must:

    • Be female
    • Be between the ages of 16 and 24
    • Have a source of income such as regular employment or Centrelink.
    • Be engaged in a regular daytime program such as school, TAFE, Uni or work. This needs to be a minimum of 5 hours per day for 4 - 5 days per week.
    • Read, understand, and agree with our Residential Agreement
    • Complete the Referral Form and return via email.

We are not a crisis accommodation service, nor do we staff the house 24/7. Jacaranda Cottage is not suitable for young women who are in situations of high need or require crisis accommodation. Please see below for alternative services that may meet your needs.

    Your Next Step

Apply to stay: Ensure you or your client meet the criteria listed above, have read our Residential Agreement, and submit a Referral Form.

    • Supplying life basics

Often the simplest things make the biggest difference. For many, access to a nutritious meal, basic furniture and household items, and school supplies is a luxury that most take for granted. Kingsway Care is committed to serving the community through offering access to some of life's basic essentials.

    • Housing the homeless

Homelessness is a complex issue with no single solution. However, Kingsway Care is committed to working collaboratively across the health and housing sectors to provide temporary and crisis accommodation for people who have become homeless due to domestic violence, financial hardship, or family breakdown in the Sutherland Shire and Georges River regions.

"Platform Nine gave us the care and support we needed in a scary and uncertain time. Mum is back at work now, and I'm still studying for my exams. Life's not perfect, but we're safe and that's all this young girl and her mum could ask for." Your support will help Kingsway Care serve and support more people like Jessica and her mum.
