Run to Restore 2023

The Jacaranda Run to Restore is set to be another outstanding event supporting young women experiencing homelessness. Over 500 people in the Sutherland Shire and Georges River region experience homelessness every night. This includes young and vulnerable women who are without a safe place to stay. This is simply not okay. Join us on May 27th, 2023 as we run or walk and raise money that will enable Jacaranda Cottage to continue providing support to young women experiencing homelessness.

At the end of 2022, Jacaranda Cottage had no option but to close its doors due to funding cuts. This has meant that the only female homelessness youth refuge in the Sutherland Shire is gone. This has created a huge gap for young women in desperate need. Jacaranda Cottage has housed young women for over 30 years, and we are not done yet. Since closing, Jacaranda Cottage has partnered with our sister service, Platform Nine. Together, we have created a new youth arm of Platform Nine which will continue to be known as Jacaranda Cottage. This partnership has created new and exciting opportunities to serve and support young women experiencing homelessness in our region.

Location: Florence Parade/Greenhaven Fire Trail, Royal National Park

Starting/Finish Point: Florence Parade Trail Carpark (National Park end)

Time: 7:30am Registration / 8:00am Run/Walk Start

Distance: 8km Run / 4km Walk

Not a runner? Can't make the event? Don't fret! You can take part in the Jacaranda Un-Run! Simply register for the Un-Run below, stay home, put your feet up and get your friends to sponsor you not to run!

Once you're registered, we'd love you to create your very own fundraising page and begin asking your friends and family to sponsor you to run or walk. The process is super simple and quick. The link to create a fundraising page will be in your confirmation email.

The impacts of domestic violence, homelessness, addiction, unaffordable housing, and family breakdown are driving many in our community to the margins of society. Platform Nine is a community of refuge of hope for those who need it most.
Jacaranda Cottage

Jacaranda Cottage is a refuge for young women aged between 16 and 24 who have become homeless or are at risk of becoming homeless. Our vision is to serve, support and impart hope to young women and see their lives restored.

Often the simplest things make the biggest difference. For many, access to a nutritious meal, basic furniture and household items, and school supplies is a luxury that most take for granted. Kingsway Care is committed to serving the community through offering access to some of life's basic essentials.

Southern Cross Kids

Southern Cross Kids is a fun, safe and encouraging environment for children at risk. Through the experience of an annual camp and ongoing monthly Kid's Club events, young people that have suffered trauma can enjoy friendship and fun in a safe place.
Official Opening of Georges River's First Adult Crisis Accommodation Service

There are currently 23 women, or women with children, who are survivors of Domestic and Family Violence in the Georges River region, and who have become homeless as a result of their situation. These women and children have had nowhere to turn, until now.
